Roger M. Woeller, M.Sc., FGAC, P.Geo.

Chief Executive Officer

Roger is a seasoned entrepreneur with more than 30 years of experience in the environmental science industry, and led the development of the WESA Group of Companies as CEO from 2001 to 2012, providing leadership that drove steady growth, including identifying new service areas, developing new markets, and promoting innovative thinking throughout the company. He has worked both domestically and abroad in senior management positions, defining the roles of engineers and scientists in the developing environmental consulting, water and wastewater treatment, and OH&S business. As CEO of BluMetric, Roger focuses primarily on the development of the business, identifying and acting on opportunities for growth through acquisitions and the exploitation of new markets and technologies.

Vivian Karaiskos, CPA, CA

Chief Financial Officer

Vivian heads up the Finance group within BluMetric, and wields responsibility for the financial, reporting, accounting, and information systems functions as well as overseeing human resources. With more than 20 years of financial and business experience, Vivian most recently served as VP, Finance, of a diversified private real estate development company, and has an extensive background in financial information systems, business analysis, financial reporting, and governance.

James Hotchkies, M.Eng.

Senior Vice President – Business Development & Growth

With over 30 years of experience in the global water & wastewater industry, Jim has held senior executive positions with ZENON Environmental, GE Water & Process Technologies, Toray Membranes, Ostara, and LG Electronics’ Water Membrane group. Focusing on the development and application of advanced technologies to lower the water and energy footprint of wastewater treatment, Jim has started and grown successful business ventures in North America, Australia, and Europe. Jim is also Chairman of Aquarion AG., Managing Director of JWH Consulting GmbH, and serves on the advisory boards of several water sector funds and ventures in Canada, the USA, Europe, New Zealand, and Israel.

Dan L. Scroggins

Senior Vice President – Research & Innovation

Dan has 35 years of experience in the water and wastewater treatment field, having participated in hundreds of projects around the globe. An innovator in his field, he has been involved in almost every aspect of the business, from the formation of several companies to the creation of a national sales organization, the development and introduction of new products to a national market, and the consolidation of several companies into one integrated entity. His management experience includes taking a small entrepreneurial company from its inception to IPO on NASDAQ. He has also served as the general manager of a $15,000,000/year division of a publicly traded corporation, streamlining the operation and increased profitability by focusing on strengths, reducing costs, and expanding the product offering.

Dan has the technical expertise required to understand and evolve the process and equipment employed in the water and wastewater field.

Lydia Renton, B.Sc., CIH, ROH, FAIHA

Director – Corporate Occupational Hygiene and Safety

Lydia has over 30 years of global experience in the practice of occupational hygiene and safety. She is very familiar with the practical applications of regulations related to health and safety in Canada and many jurisdictions worldwide, having worked for Labour Canada (now HRSDC), Health Canada, and the Ontario Ministry of Labour. She was corporate Industrial Hygienist for Bell-Northern Research, and EHS Manager for Nortel Semiconductors. Since 1999, she has focussed on the OHS consulting practice and internal processes at BluMetric Environmental Inc. She has served on several Boards, including WESA, Ontario’s WHSA, past President of the CRBOH, Past-Chair of the ABIH Board of Directors, and AIHA Fellows SIG. Lydia was awarded the 2008 Hugh Nelson Award of Excellence by OHAO, recognized as an AIHA Fellow in 2014, and as an AIHA Distinguished Lecturer in 2016. Lydia’s focus is a practical exposure judgement and risk-based approach to mitigating hazards.

Ron W. Clifton, MASc, BASc, P.Eng.

As President and founder of CliftonGroup International Limited, Ron Clifton has provided consulting services to C-level executives in both SMEs and the business units of larger companies. In addition to a number of President and CEO posts, Mr. Clifton served as General Manager of Zenon Environmental Systems Inc. (a water and wastewater treatment company acquired by GE Water in 2006), and has both public- and private-company experience at senior management, operations, project management, and Board levels.

Jordan Grant, BA.

Jordan Grant is President of the Seaton Group of companies, whose core business is real estate development. Seaton Group’s Ontario projects have included the expansion of a number of communities in the GTA, as well as development of recreational and retirement properties. Seaton has also restored several heritage buildings, winning the Ontario Renews award for Market Lane in Woodbridge, and several national and provincial awards for the Alton Mill Arts Centre, which Seaton currently operates in Caledon. Other businesses include golf course operation and developing lands in Belize for uses ranging from residential, to citrus groves, to eco-tourism. Seaton became a significant shareholder of Seprotech Systems Inc. in 2002, upon which Mr. Grant joined the board, since serving in various capacities including Chair and acting CEO.

Matt Heffernan

As president and CEO of Zedi Inc., a Calgary-based production operations management company, Matt Heffernan has been able to increase sales more than 500 percent over 10 years while making the company a significant international player, a process which required transformative changes to the 21-year-old company. His approach recently resulted in the company being named one of the Globe and Mail’s “Top 75 Great Places to Work in Canada”. Prior to this, Mr. Heffernan held executive positions in telecommunications, satellite imaging, and engineering consulting where he was involved with mergers and acquisitions, and subsequently was able to turn faltering business units into high-growth, high-profit operations. Mr. Heffernan has extensive experience in identifying, negotiating, and absorbing acquisitions; public- and private-company board work; and product development.

Murray J. Malley, CA, ICD.D., MBA Int’l Mgmt.

A chartered accountant, Mr. Malley is President of Malley Associates, founded in 2007, an association of C-suite executives who provide small- and mid-cap companies with mentoring and guidance on financial strategies, governance, and corporate sustainability. For the past 11 years, Mr. Malley has also served as President of MediDirect, a private company providing outsourced human resources and other management support services for SMEs. Mr. Malley has more than 25 years of senior executive experience in the financial, technology, medical, aviation, manufacturing, waste management, and distribution industries, and has held numerous public and private company directorships as well. In 2000, Mr. Malley received the Distinguished Service Award from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta; in addition, he was a member of an executive team which received the 1998 Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Special Recognition Category, and was also a 1988 Gold Medalist in the Chartered Accountants Provincial Taxation Exam. He has written articles and provided seminars on Human Resource Management and Benefits, Corporate Sustainability, Enterprise Risk Management, and Governance and Succession.

Jane Pagel, MSc, ICD.D.

Jane Pagel has served on a number of boards and currently sits on the boards of Sustainable Development Technology Canada and the Water Technology Acceleration Project (WaterTAP). She has held numerous executive positions in both government and the private sector and was President and CEO of the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) from 2010 until her retirement in early 2014. Prior industry positions held by Ms Pagel include Principal Government and Industry Relations at Stantec; Senior Vice President and Principal at Jacques Whitford, (acquired by Stantec in 2009); Vice President Government Relations at Philip Services; and President of Zenon Environmental Laboratories. Ms Pagel has also held senior positions at the Ministry of the Environment and was Director of Research and Technology when she left the Ministry in 1990.

Geoff Simonett, BComm.

Geoff Simonett is an accomplished entrepreneur with more than two decades of experience operating and financing early-stage companies. As an operator, Mr. Simonett has founded, built, and successfully exited five companies in industries including software, marketing, and financial services, and he is highly adept at creating and executing strategic plans, raising capital, and motivating diverse teams. As an investor, advisor, or board member, Mr. SImonett has been involved with dozens of companies, primarily in IT and cleantech. He is currently an Entrepreneur in Residence at Ontario’s Regional Innovation Centre (RIC) in Mississauga, as well as board work and mentoring several early-stage technology companies.

Board Committees

There are three permanent Board committees:

  1. The Audit Committee (consisting of Murray Malley (Chair), Geoff Simonett, and Ron Clifton), which assists the Board of Directors in carrying out its responsibilities relating to corporate accounting and financial reporting practices. This committee reviews BluMetric’s quarterly and annual financial statements, internal controls, and the engagement and advice of the Corporation’s auditors, reporting back to the Board of Directors.
  2. The HR and Compensation Committee (consisting of Jane Pagel (Chair), Jordan Grant, Geoff Simonett, Roger Woeller (ex officio), and Murray Malley (ex officio)), which is responsible for personnel matters, including performance, compensation, and succession. This committee reviews all senior compensation and the Company’s overall compensation model, including incentive awards and implementation.
  3. The Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee (consisting of Ron Clifton (Chair), Jordan Grant, Jane Pagel, and Murray Malley (ex officio), which is responsible for executive and Board succession planning, monitoring Board member effectiveness and performance, governance issues, and disclosure policies.
